Last week I saw a lot about Saucony’s “Find Your Strong” project. Dailymile, the fitness website I use, posted this video early in the week.

And while I find it inspiring, I don’t enjoy it as going to Dailymile’s website and checking out all the posts by fellow runners (bikers, swimmers, and just general fitness folks) talking about what inspires them to keep going. Some people posted photographs of the scenery they run in, others of the people they run with. One person posted a photo of a pizza and said that running helps her eat her treats!

I didn’t post anything, but it did get me thinking about motivates me. I thought about what motivates me not only to run and exercise, but eat healthfully, do my homework, show up to work. There are so many things we need motivation to do every day, and sometimes when I don’t feel like going anymore I have to remind myself of why I do everything I do.

My motivators change every day, but I have to say that one of my biggest motivations with exercising and eating right is new clothes! It sounds materialistic and I do those things for several other reasons, but I do love getting new clothes. When I was heavier I loved wearing black and gray and I wore them all the time. They were slimming and comfortable for me. Now when I go shopping I buy bright pink, green, red, blue, yellow, I’m not afraid of any color. Shopping is so much more fun now, I don’t have to search to the back of the rack for the biggest size, but rather go for the middle sizes. I feel like I have so many more options, and something that should be fun, shopping for new clothes, no longer brings me stress. That is a huge motivator for me.

In other news, my parents and I visited rental stores in Des Moines on Friday and I picked out our dishes, silverware, napkins, and other wedding things. We are getting red gingham napkins, which I am thrilled about! I think they’re going to look so awesome in the barn and compliment the food perfectly. Wedding planning is a lot of work, but it is fun to pick out all of the little things and imagine what it will look like when it comes together.

  1. I don’t think it’s materialistic and I completely understand. I am not buying clothes, because there’s still so much I want to lose. It will be a pleasant reward for me to actually look good in clothing. Well, I hope I will anyone. It’s not the only reason, but it’s up there.
